About Us

Why this site exists

Most DIY project calculators fall into two camps: a manufacturer's tool that only estimates its own product, or a generic page that gives you one number with no explanation of how it got there and no sense of whether it accounts for waste, layout pattern, or the units your material is actually sold in.

rightquantity.com runs entirely in your browser. There's no account, no paywall, and nothing you type gets sent anywhere. Every calculator includes a "How to Calculate" section so the formula isn't a black box, and rounds its answer to what you can actually buy - whole bags, full boxes, a quarter-yard of ready-mix - not a raw decimal.

rightquantity.com at a glance

  • 162 calculators across concrete, paint, flooring, landscaping, decking and more, each with a worked example and FAQs.
  • 43 of them cite a building code, industry standard, or manufacturer spec sheet for the figures they use.
  • No ads, no account, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Principles

  • No sign-up, ever. Every calculator works without an account or email address.
  • Show the math. Every result comes with a "How to Calculate" section explaining the formula, not just a number.
  • Nothing leaves your browser. Calculations run on your device; what you enter is never transmitted or stored.
  • Buy the right amount. Results round to what's actually purchasable, with an industry-standard waste allowance already applied, not left for you to guess.

Research and methodology

Calculators are compared with existing tools before they're built, and every figure comes from a building code, an industry standard (ASTM, NRMCA, TCNA and similar), or a manufacturer spec sheet where one exists, cited on the page. Results are checked against worked examples and, where the formula is complex enough to get wrong, against a second, independently written implementation. The methodology page explains the sourcing policy, the testing, and what the calculators deliberately leave out. The Disclaimer has the full list of limitations. Treat every result as a starting point for your shopping list, not a final number - and check your local building code before any structural or permitted work.
